Tuesday 10/15 with the retreat and teacher training with Shiva Rea wrapped up, my husband and I hired a driver to take us very early in the morning to the Elephant Rehabilitation Centre of Kappukadu, Thiruvananthapuram. After a pretty bumpy 1.5 hour drive, we arrived just in time to meet and touch 3 of the 9 elephants that currently live there; ages 65, 4 1/2 and 4 years! Having a life-long love of elephants, it was a dream come true to be invited by their care givers to help scrub all three elephants down for their morning bath! Of course, I jumped in the river, skirt and all, to join them! The younger elephants blew bubbles and played with twigs and other objects during their bath, and the older elephant rested his trunk on his tusk and seemed to relax. I’ve included a video and a few photos to share the life changing event with you.
